Mahé Island Seychelles

Mahé Island Holidays

Mahé Island is the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago and base for the International Airport. Mahé Island is just 17miles by 5miles with lush tropical hillsides rising to around 3000 feet.

All Mahé Island hotels have been constructed to blend into the Seychelles tropical scenery and, although there are now a number of hotels on Mahé Island, it is still relatively unspoilt and remains a popular holiday island in the Seychelles.

All international visitors land on Mahé Island where Seychelles International Airport and the tiny capital of Victoria can be found. The best way to explore Victoria is simply to wander around. The market - selling fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, spices as well as arts & crafts - is open every day except Sunday, but the best time to get a feel for the place and the people is to visit on a saturday morning when locals descend for their weekly shopping! Opposite Cable and Wireless you will find small arts and craft kiosks, while to rest your weary legs why not enjoy a Seybrew (local beer) at the meeting point "Pirates Arms".

Many activities can be taken from Mahé such as diving, water sports, nature walks and trails within the national parks, galleries and excursions. Hiring a car is the best way to explore the island at your own pace. Roads are quite good with driving on the left, but take care at hair-pin bends especially at night. A drive over the island will afford spectacular views and you are never far from superb, often deserted, white sandy beaches.
